Start with function
We define why a category matters and what mechanism a useful formula needs before searching for products.
Our evidence standard
We connect product categories to skin biology, then show exactly how a recommendation was made.
What we believe
A plausible ingredient story is not the same as evidence for every finished product.
Our foundational framework comes from Leslie S. Baumann, MD’s Cosmeceuticals and Cosmetic Ingredients (McGraw-Hill Education, 2015). We paraphrase the science, cite the chapters used, and check time-sensitive health guidance against current authoritative sources.
No product is universal, no routine needs to be maximal, and every conclusion should remain proportional to the evidence.
The process
We define why a category matters and what mechanism a useful formula needs before searching for products.
Editorial selections and automated catalog candidates must match category-specific rules; tools, supplements, and unrelated formats are excluded.
A recommendation means category fit under published rules—not first-hand testing, universal tolerance, or a medical treatment plan.
The 2015 textbook provides a foundation; current clinical, regulatory, and peer-reviewed sources can refine or supersede it.
Transparency
Editorial selections are checked against manufacturer information and the current product listing. When automation is available, it admits only catalog products whose supplied text passes the same published category screen. Neither route verifies the complete current formula, manufacturing quality, personal tolerance, or clinical outcome.
Recommendations are starting points for informed comparison, not medical endorsements. The shelf shows its source, review time, screening version, and limits; stale catalog content is removed automatically while reviewed selections remain available.
Some outbound product links can support Bene Ookami without changing the purchaser’s price. That commercial relationship does not determine the scientific framework or category screen.
